Anxiety and Panic Attacks
Special report: Anxiety and Panic Attacks in Children
A panic attack or panic
disorder can be found in people of all ages. Having
a child that is dealing with a panic disorder is not
unusual, though it may show up differently in younger
people than in adults.
Children will tend to report the actual symptoms of
anxiety and panic attacks that they are feeling in
their body rather than the emotional problems. However
most children that experience a panic attack may appear to be
upset or scared with no explanation at
all. This is going to be confusing to adults who
may be trying to assist the child to understand their
problem.
Children are not able to completely understand what is
happening to them all the time. They are not sure what the
problem is with their mind and body. Children with anxiety and
panic attacks may show that they are worried and
confused. Parents and guardians need to watch their
children closely and notice any problems that may be starting
with them. Knowing what your child is going through is
something that you need to take time to do. You have to
be sympathetic to your child's condition and understand what
they need from you and if they should see a doctor.
If a panic disorder is left untreated in a child, it may
bring a lot more problems to the child once they hit their
adult years. There may be more adult feelings setting in
and the child may not have learned the ability to recover from
them completely. As an adult, having the ability to
notice these problems from the start is going to be a great
help and will get the child ready for later on in life. A
panic disorder can lead to many other problems for a child and
give them feelings of destruction and anxiety for just about
any reason.
Sometimes a child will have a panic disorder when they are
around others. Other children may worry them and being
around too many at one time may not be a good idea. A child can
become overwhelmed and worried when they are in this type of
situation. A child may go into a panic disorder when they
are faced with fear in any type of situation. Getting
your child help is something that will be a big factor in
getting your child under control when they are dealing
with panic situations.
Usually children that get treatment for a panic
disorder will not have to deal with the problems all
of their life. With the right help when they are younger,
they will not have the fear not all of their life and the panic
will be an issue for their adult life. Taking care of the
situation in the beginning is going to be the best way to deal
with a panic disorder at any age.
